I look forward to your writing every week-I love this review. I had no interest in the movie til now! My fave 21st century mantra is “you do you.” I bought my niece “astronaut Barbie” and “computer programmer Barbie,” but now that she’s a teen she’s into makeup artistry and fashion design. The awesome thing about the 21st century is that there is less gatekeeping as to who can be a feminist. And I totally remember you doing the Pee Wee Herman dance at MHS in the halls after the first movie came out😆 so sad about Paul Rubens and Sinead O’Connor. She was one of my high school heroes.
So many people have reminded me of my Pee Wee dance — every time Tequila would come on, I couldn’t help myself! I loved him so so much. Such a stellar human. One of my favorite moments of his was after he got caught pleasuring himself (no, did not harm anyone, why was this such a scandal?!) and an awards ceremony soon after he began his audience address with a cute smirk and said “Heard any good jokes lately?!” THAT is how one handles unwarranted public shaming 💖🙏🏼💖
I read this before I saw the movie, and was able to appreciate Barbie even more. Thank you for sharing your glorious writing. You truly capture my own thoughts, and give me new ones, too.
Great lively and always perceptive writing. Too corrections, though. Greta Gerwig didn't win any Oscars (she got nominated 3 times). US soccer team is not shredding the field this time. There are better teams out there and US will be lucky to get to the semifinals. I hope I am wrong.
Isn’t it the Barbie-inspired point that the US Women indeed ARE shredding it, having achieved oh-so-much, even if/when they aren’t winning at the World Cup? (ps *two*)
